Got back home to Round Rock yesterday after a rushed trip to the Valley. The only day I had free was Tuesday (the 23rd) so we got there at 11:00 am and found
out real quick that the tide was just going down (paper said high tide was at 8 ish). There were alot of parts of the drive north of entrance 5 that were still
puddled or verrrry mushy! We got through ok with our 4 wheel drive. Parked at 18 miles north of entrance 6 and enjoyed the day. It sprinkled three times, once
really hard but we had a canopy and my wife slept right through it all. We never did connect with our friends from Arkansas but hope to still see them on the
way through here.
Beach conditions were ideal for driving after the tide went down to normal but the huge amounts of week-end trash at entrance 5 all the way north past entrance 6 was really disgusting. The trash barrels were overflowing but most of the litter wasn't even close to a barrel, imagine driving through a landfill! I grew up down there and I'm truly embarrassed that week-enders treat this great beach like that. Once we got a couple of three miles north of 6 the beach was really clean of trash except for the occassional offshore treasure washing up. I had a hard time finding any treasure at 18 miles except for the wrecked bottom half of an escape pod off an offshore rig that was behind the dunes! Hope it was empty when it broke up.
Looking forward to our next trip in amonth or so, I'll post dates later. Oh, and Barney Fife didn't show! Only friendly park rangers, passers by and turtle patrol young people! All waved and were happy to see us nekkid and having fun!
