Camping on the COB???? |
Lead | ||
|
We're planning a 4 day trip to SPI over July 4th and want to know about camping on the beach. Not tent but in the camper (with the AC going). Any
comments on camping on the beach?

Get a tide chart!! My wife and I tent camped last fall and had a great time, except for the lightning storm and high winds during the night and getting stuck
the next morning cause the beach had changed dramatically. It was a rental truck anyway! Oh, and do pack your firearm and keep it handy, I've only heard
the stories but they were told to me by a local so please heed. Wish we could go but we're headed the other way to Roswell, N.M. for the Alien Fest! Our
son's band is playing on the 3rd. Good luck and write a report later.

Firearms?
We will be WELL defended. Hopefully we wont need
any self defense though.
We've been to Roswell and met the real Glenn Dennis (from the movie) not the actor portraying him. We had a nice discussion with him. Want to do me a favor? Get a coffee cup that says "Roswell, NM" if you can find one. Then we will HAVE to meet you at SPI. Have fun!! |

You got the cup, my friend! Hey, I hear that people dress up as aliens for the festival, do aliens have to wear clothes? I was thinking, maybe they don't
and I could....

The COB is 10 miles up the beach. I would not bring my travel trailer up the beach unless the tide was going to be really low for both coming and going. On 1
July the low tide will be -1.4, but by Sunday, the low is a +1.0. That could be a real problem for coming back from the beach. As far as camping, I've
been looking at one of those tents that sit up over the bed of a pick-up. I think that type would be ideal. You are up off the ground and not as subject to
rain, tide or critters.

Agreed the TT is a bad idea. We have a camper shell with a bed inside so we have dont have to tow anything. We have an AC unit installed and one of those Honda
EU1000i generators. Running just the AC it burns 1/2 gallon of fuel overnight. We would use that setup for camping.
We are thinking that the 4wd dually might be a better choice for the beach. We havnt decided yet. Thnks for the input. |

Have to bee in the Valley on the 11th for a work meeting. Thinking of coming down on the 10th and spending the day on the beach fishing, stay at a hotel that
night, go to meeting on the 11th till 5pm, then bach out to the beach for some night and early morning fishing, sleep and leave by 3pm on the 12th to get back
home so to make it to work on the 13th.
So, anyone else think they might make it out there that I should look for, I'll be driving a camo Jeep. Charles & Christy Christy won't make it do to her job. |
